KILLED BY EXPRESS

HAWKE’S BAY POSTMASTER. Telegraph, Per Press Association. NAPIER, May 23. With his son as a horrified witness, Mr John Corloss, aged 73, Postmaster at Poukawa, was knocked down and killed instantly within sight of his home by the Wellington-Napier express this afternoon. The deceased had just left the south hound train from Hastings, where he had been on business, and was crossing the line to his home with his hands in his pockets and his head bent. Apparently he did not see the north-going express, which was travelling at a brisk speed, and the cow-catcher struck his logs and flung him along and off the line. Deceased was dead when picked up. The express was brought to an immediate standstill, and the body was taken on to Hastings. Deceased, who was a widower, had an.adult family of three.
