There is widespread interest in the piquant sequel to the recent publication* of “The Cradle of the Deep,” an “autobiography” in which beautiful young Miss Jane Lowell told of 17 years of adventure at sea as“ the only woman thing” in her father’s ship Minnie A. Caine., Aliss Lowell became the rage in society drawing-rooms, into which she carried the tang of the sea with language sometimes more robust than delicate. The book had a great vogue, and it is said that a £ls,(X)fi film contract was prepared for her signature: But sailors remarked that some of the terms she used in her book were more “land-lubberish” than seamanlike, and it was then learned from San Francisco that her lathers ship was still doing yeoman service, although according to her narrative it disappeared in a fire off Adelaide while she swam ashore with two kittens clinging to her.

When these and other discrepancies caused discussion Miss Lowell withdrew from gay parties to the quietude of her home. She has now issued a statement saying that if she had anticipated the amazing interest created by ..her book “maybe T would not have taken some natural artistic latitude in writing down my adventures.” She insists, however that in ils “essentials” her narrative is veracious
