SENSATIONAL TRIAL
MURDER AND CANNIBALISM. (United Press Association —By Electric * -ph—Copyright). (Received this day at 11.25. a.m.) PRAGUE, May 22. A sensational trial of seventeen men and two women was opened at Kaschau, Czecho-Slovakia. The prisoners are members of a Gipsy band which terrorised Moldavia, murdering men, women and chldren on the smallest provocatin. The total number of victims is unknown, but the prosecution has traced dozens of murderers, some involving charges of cannibalism. Alexander Filke, leader of the gang, has confessed that he participated in cannibal orgies for two years. Other gipsies admitted they ate human flesh when they were suffering privations. References to cannibalism were suppressed at the preliminary enquiry, but revelations are expected at this trial. Only principals in the case, lawyers and a journalist arc being admitted to the courthouse.
