CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
PROTEST AGAINST COMPANY TAXATION.

Exception was taken at the Chamber of Commerce meeting to any increase in company taxation. The President spoke of the present impost of 4s fid in the pound for income tax, as the loading of dice against enterprise. The opinion was expressed that expenditure must he reduced and customs Increased. A sub-committee was appointed to go into the matter.
The Chamber also discussed tourist traffic from Australia, hut considered the steamer service would have to he improved before they could expect an increase. It was alleged some of the vessels were quite unfit for the purpose. The matter was referred to the Publicity Committee.

They had been told already by highly placed authorities that tlieir flights had been of groat national value. The Southern Cross had carried a more efficient wireless than any other plane over had. except Byrd’s Antarctic equipment-, which had boon made by ths same firm as made the Southern Cross outfit.
The Committee announced that it will adjourn till Thursday, and will hear evidence next week at Alelboairno.
