LATE LOCALS.

At the County Council meeting on the motion of Air Searle, a vote of £25 Avas passed for the purpose of improving access for the transport of mining machinery on the Little Wanganui river bed. 1 ■

An accident happened this afternoon just after 2 o’clock to Mr Austin Sumner. He Avas employed loading a truck of timber in tho railway station yard when he slipped and came down to the ground Avith several pieces of timber. He Avas struck on-the side of the head and rendered unconscious. Dr Baird was called and ordered his removal to the hospital for attention.

Tho gas cooking demonstration at the Soldiers’ Hall yesterday afternoon Avas Avell attended, and an interesting and instructive time resulted. Airs Heinz Avas the demonstrator,, using a Champion gas cooker and also a Miramar cooker. The latter is tho latest type, finished in grey enamel Avitliout any burnished parts, and is easy to keep clean, and is certainly ornamental. The menu advertised Avas prepared in the presence’of those present, and the cooking Avas excellent. Several recipes were given which the ladies noted in their note-books. Afternoon tea Avas served and was enjoyed Avliile the lesson proceeded. The demonstrations will bo continued next Tuesday afternoon. The series promises to be A-ery successful.
