A LONG BATTLE
HUGE M A KLIN SHARK ESCAPES. AUCKLAND, May 19. A great battle with a huge black marlin was waged by Air H. Stonox at the Bay of Islands, when out in H. Fuller’s launch. He hooked the hsh off Piercy Island. It immediately headed straight out to sea, and half and hour later it poked its head out of the water. The anglers* saw a huge spear half broken off in its head. After two hours more the fish showed its head again-; it v was still travelling seaward live hours and 20 minutes after it was hooked, and when it was eleven miles out to sea the fish broke clean out of the water swam in a half circle for 200 yards and then, as if it had suddenly woke un. it made a huge splash and broke the line as if it were packing thread. The launchman says it was the biggest swordfish he had ever seen. Its tail looked huge. He estimated it would have proved bigger than the record fish captured by Captain ATithoell. Mr Stonox. who is over seventy years of age, was exhausted by the long struggle. ___
