MOTOR CYCLIST’S INJURIES

DAMAGES AWARDED. Cl!II1-STLTIURCH, May Id.. Allan Hunter, traveller, in the Supreme Court yesterday, sued Harold Lighlband, leather merchant, for the sum of £542 11s Del, damages, on account of injuries caused by a collision between a motor-cycle ridden by Hunter and a motor-car driven by Lightband at the corn.gr of Ferry Road and Ramford Street on March 13 last. Plaintiff alleged that Lightband drove negligently and unskilfully and at an excessive speed, did not keep a proper look-out, did not give warning that lie was about to turn from Ferry Road into Rainford Street, drove on tho right-hand side .of the road when he took the corner, and did not keep proper control of his car at or just prior to tho impact. Plaintiff stated that he had been unable to work since

the accident, that five of his ribs had been broken, that an injury to his head had affected his hearing, and that he had suffered bruises and shock. His claim was made lip of special damages t‘42 11s 9d—ambulance 11s 3d, hospital expenses £9 os, faro to hospital 10s, damages to clothing los 6d, loss of wages at £5 5s a week £3l 10s —and £SOO general damages. The jury, after retiring for half an hour, returned a verdict for plaintiff, and awarded him tho special damages claimed, £42 11s 9d, and £275 general dam'agos. i Judgment was given for plaintiff for £317 lls 9d, with costs according to scale. Leave was reserved to defendant to move for a new trial within fourteen days.
