Doctor Spreat, Health Officer at Barnett, reporting on a large number of deaths that were due to heart failure ,declares that the noises on modern roads wore most harmful to the sufferers from gout and from the heart. They needed iron nerves to stand up to the noise of the pneumatic drills and screeching brakes, buses and trams. .
