IN OPERATING THEATRE.

(Australian Press Association)

(Received this d-"- o a.m.) HOBART, May 15

A violent explosion occurred in the operating theatre at Spencer hospital, Wvnyard, while the room was being sterilised. A patent steriliser was switched on and a few minutes later a terrific explosion occurred. The male cleaner in the room was thrown to the floor. The reinforced concrete floor was lifted bodily six inches, and solid brick walls cracked, and medical instruments shattered. It is surmised that Fumes from a leakage in the steriliser caused the explosion.
