' A four roomed house occupied bv Stephen Rvan, and owned by the Public Trust situated just outside the Borough, was completely destroyed by fire last night. The occupier was a heavy loser. Insurances on the house are £250 in the Guardian, and furniture £IOO in the South British. The cause of tlie outbreak is unknown. THEFT SENTENCE. WELLINGTON, .May 15. Sentences totalling twelve months imprisonment with hard labour, were imposed bv Mr Cage S.M.. on Sydney Joyce Hall, alias Ainsworth, aged 27. a salesman, for theft rtf Gil 10s from a fellow lodircr and conversion of a ear and theft of a rug cushion and bathing suit from the car when he abandoned it near Masterton. The death of the late President and patron of New Zealand Earmers, Sir James Wilson, was referred to at the commencement of the quarterly executive meeting.' The President (Mr W. J. Poison, M.P.), in proposing a vote of condolence, said Sir J. Wilson had borne the heat and burden of the day and had assisted tremendously in the establishment of the present farmers’ organisation. He was a splendid pioneer and a man of whom the Union might be thoroughly proud. The motion was passed in silence, members standing. FIRE RATSING. CAMBRIDGE, May 15. Yestbrdny iiftlornoom ;n deliberate attempt was made to. set fire to Trinity Presbyterian Church here. About 3.30 the caretaker went to the Church and saw smoke issuing from a side window. The side door which is usually open was barricaded up. The caretaker burst the door in and found a pile of paper on top of a. doormat afire. A large hole was burnt, in the floor close alongside the organ.: Had it not been observed at,.the time, a serious fire must have occurred. All the evidence points that it was a deliberate attempt on the part of srtme adult' person.
