IN ENGLISH CHAM LIONS HIP. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegrapn.—Copyright.; ■ LONDON, May 14. ■V big crowd witnessed Miss M etliored's reappearance in the women's champion, snip, aitor an absence cil four years. Miss Mothered was hemmed in so closely, owing io no stewards being present, that she had scarcely sufficient room to swing her club. The consequence was that there were some delays until some mem, hers of the Royal and Ancient Club volunteered to shepherd her. Miss We the red was obliged to solid a Hying hall down a narrow avenue, and on,y her wondcriul accuracy prevented i.Tie spectators being struck. Her length was tremendous and is described as comparable to that of any first" class scratch golfer man. For instance, at the second hole of 431 yards, there is a. famous hazard 250 yards from the tee. Miss Wetliered drove fifteen yards past this, necessitating only a controlled three-quarter masliie for her second shot to the green. Her score of one over fours was far the best one ol the day.
Although Miss Wethered’s position appears to be unassailable, the chances of the American champion, Miss Gleniui Collett, cannot be overlooked. She is a worthy golfer, and she drove a very long ball. This tael was strikingly illustrated at the fifth hole, which she did in four. Hiss Enid Wilson, who must heal Miss Collett to reach the final, wor her match three and two.
Miss Sylvia Dampnev, Wimbledon’s Welsh International, beat Mis* Turpie, one of America’s challemrors LONDON, May 13.
