TRANSFER OF WORKERS
SOUTH ISLAND Al.P.’s PROTEST. 'By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Alay 14. The proposed transference of unemployed from tho North Island to South Island public Works "as the subject of a protest hv a deputation of South Island Members of Parliament, which waited on Hon E. Ran son to-day. The deputation speakers urged that it was not reasonable to transfer outside workers to the South Island, which already had a- serious unemployed problem of its own. Hon. Rii- Random said that it was necessary to send men from the North Island to the South Island, as there were no railway works adjacent to the Wellington province. The construction of two railway works in the North. Island had .been stopped, and men had boon transferred to other works. The men were going to definite works, and not to relief work's. “We don’t want to sot one Island against the other,” said Air Ransom “hut we are compelled to transfer men where necessary.”
