SUPERANNUATION BOARD. QUARTERLY MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright WELLINGTON, May 10. The quarterly meeting of the Public Service Superannuation Board was held yesterday, Air J. W. Macdonald presiding. Thirty-six contributions who had retired by reason of age or length of service were granted allowances of a total of £8493 per annum, and five' contributors, retired'as medically unfit, were granted allowances totalling £839 per annum. In two cases consideration was postponed, and one application for an additional allowance on account of retirement through injuries received whilst on police duty was declined. Twelve widows and twelve children were granted the statutory allowances, amounting to £GS4 per annum. SOUTHLAND WINTER SHOW. INVERCARGILL, May 12. Southland A. and P. Association’s Winter Show opened under most favourable circumstances on Saturday, this being the first occasion on which the' opening was held oh a Saturday. The display is attractive, and well arranged, and is considered one of the finest winter features yet hold in the province. The eritries, although smaller in some sections, are well maintained. A feature of this year is a display by the Department of Agriculture, which is regarded as one of the most comprehensive and interesting yet displayed by tlie Department in the South Island. The exhibit occupies approximately 20,000 square feet. Although embracing the activities of all departments, the exhibit is in charge of the Fields Division, under the supervision of Mr R. B. Tennent. superintendent for Otago and Southland. It gives a fleeting glance oif many features of the work tackled by the Department.
