TATORS

Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

LONDON, May 9

Hagen’s round of 67 is a new record lor any championship round on any British course. The previous beet was Bobby Jones’s 68 in 1927.

Hagen was bunkered twice, and yet each time gut out “birdie.” Other wise ho did not leave the Tine.

Hagen’s card out read:—4 4 3 4 3 o 3 5 4—33. His card home was—4 4 4 3 3 4 3 5 4—34, this including six “birdies” and two “eagles.” Hagen never exceeded the par figures. He got a four for the longest hole of 510 yards. H got three at holes measuring 380 yards, 450 yards and 450 yards.

’Ten thousand people followed Hagen who kept them waiting usually for a couple of . minutes while' he- surveyed the line for putts at all angles. At least two competitors • suffered from Hagen’s greatness. The American, Cruickslianks heat Hagen’s figures - for thirteen holes, and he only required par’figures for. the remaining five holes to equal Hagen’s record, but tlie crowds who were scampering across, the course to witness Hagen’s finish held him up.

Duncan does not play well unless he can go quickly.. The many checks, to enable Hagen’s crowd to get clear, put him off.

Diogel did wonderfully well until the crowd hampered him.

Compston made one had slip. His card included a seven, but his fighting spirit remains.

The leading eleven competitors now include eight Americans.
