The results of the year’s work of the Post and Telegraph Department"’■‘were made known by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, in the course- of his address at the ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone of Napier’s new post office. “ It is fitting, on an occasion such as this, that I, should make reference to the results of the year’s working of the Department,” he said, “ and I am pleased Lo say that several of the branches of tl|f Department’s activities show marked growth. The position has improved to the extent that, this year, the excess of withdrawals has decreased to £859,559 7s 9d. As a set-off against the excess of withdrawals, the amount credited to Savings Bank depositors for .interest as at Match 31 must be taken into consideration. Bnst year the amount so credited was £1,747,155 13s 9d.
