AN OUTRAGE

IN LITHUANIA, . PREMIER’S NARROW ESCAPE. , (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, A lay 7. “ The Times ” Riga correspondent states:—The Lithuanian Prime Alinister, M. Valdeinaras’s son, has died from the injuries in the abdomen he received, when snot by the men who tried to kill the premier. Eye-wit-nesses relate pathetic stories of the outrage. Four assailants, armed with revolvers and bombs attacked the Prime Minister's party, and when the first shots rang out, Lieutenant Guidinas, Premier Valdemaras’s grandnephew, attempted to shield the Prime Minicter, hut lie fell dead, having been wounded in tlie head and twice in the body. Two bullets following the fatal shots pierced the dress of Madame Valdemaras, and others struck Captain Verbitakis, aide-de-camp. Meanwhile; AI. Valdemaras and another carried his son into the theatre, where he . was operated on. The assailants escaped, assisted by darkness and the trees in the park surrounding the theatre. There is the greatest indignation at lvovno, where many anti-Polish speeches have been delivered, alleging that the assailants spoke English, and that they were Polish agents. Al. Valdemaras, addressing a great demonstration outside his residence, declared that bombs and revolvers'! would not prevent the continuance of the fight for Lithuanian independence. A reward of £IOOO has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the murderers.
