WINTON EXPERIMENTAL FARM.
(To the Editor, “Southland News.”) Sir,—As a visitor to Southland, please allow me space in your paper to congratulate the farmers of Southland in providing such a line field for instruction as the Winton Experimental Farm. 'l'liis inotjhod of determining the most suitable, fertilizers for the growth ol grass and root crops must prove invaluable to our sons of the soil. The farm was viewed on Wednesday under ideal conditions, the perfect day showing everything off to perfection, and the large attendance of farmers followed the instructor around with the utmost keenness. Starting at the milking shed, I was very much impressed with the cleanliness and general sanitary arrangements, also with the improved Storrie milking machine, which seems the last word in modern dairy equipment. From there around the various experimental plots we were all kept fully interested by the instructor, Mr Wilde, whose natural explanatory gilts made the day pass only too quickly. I trust at some future date to be able to visit this line experimental area.—l am, etc., ' VISITING FARMER, Renton and Co., Hokitika, arc West, Coast agents for the Storrie milking machine. —*
