STREET BATTLE

KNUCKLE DUSTERS USED. SEVERAL IX HOSPITAL. (Australian Piess Association) (United Service). (Received this •' ° a.m.) SYDNEY, May 8. Scenes reminiscent of Chicago occurred at Darlinghurst last night when a battle occurred between reputable residents of that quarter and a gang of rnllians. The trouble started when a quarrel occurred between two men over a girl. One man had the backing of a gang of underworld celebrities. When the fight commenced, guests from a nearby flat went to the assistance of the other man. The affair ended only when one ruffian was shot in the leg and two of the guests were admitted to the hospital with extensive < uts. a knuckle duster having been used. Later, Philip Jeffers was charged with having assaulted Johns and a man named Sorlev was charged with having shot at Archer with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
