NEW ZEALAND NOVEL
“THE GIRL FROM MASON CREEK.”
This is the title of a griping adventure novel by "Walter Smyth, author of “Jean of the Tussock Country.” The publishers are -Mills and Boon London. The scene of the story is laid in the bac* country of New Zealand, and all the thrilling happenings take place round the -Mason Creek Sleep Station. Hart Fenton, a squatter in need of money, takes a fancy in Jess Sinclair, the daughter of old Ituer Sinclair, a rabbiter on the station. His plans for getting possession of the girl are unscrupulous, and but for the timely advent of a mysterious stranger, who is camped on a paid of the station known as the Rough Block, lie might have succeeded in carrying out his scheme. There is much thrilling incident in the story, and the reader will bo kept at a high pitch of excitement throughout. Jess is rescued m the nick of time from her father’s shack just when the structure is about to be engulfed by the flood waters of the M,ason Creek. A hand cif strikers from the hydro-elect-ricity camp down the creek keep things lively for all concerned. This novel not only lias adventure aplenty, but has also a very charming romance running through its pages, and in addition there are some very humorous interludes. “The Girl from 'Mason Creek ” is well reviewed in the London Times’s literary supplement of March 14th.
