' A serious fiuo in the regional area ol Shanghai broke out at Hanchow yesterday, eighty miles ifrom tin's city, resulting in the complete destruction of more than five hundred buildings. The damage is estimated at several million dollars. Thousands are homeless and several most important buildings were destroyed, including schools, hospital, temples and a number of ancient landmarks, pagodas and the former Manchu palace. Thousands of Chinese stampeded, resulting in a number ol fatalities, though the total number killed or burned is uncertain at present.
