According to a proclamation issued on Thursday night, the Koval Assent lias been given tho British Nationality and Status of Aliens (in New Zealand Act, of 1928, and the legislation wil become operative as from July 1 next. The main principle of the Act is that certificates df naturalisation granted in other parts ol the Empire will he operative in New Zealand, and that certificates granted in tho dominion will confer on holders, the complete status of British subjects, a status not forfeited by departure from the country.
Last evening in ,St. Mniy’s Club Booms, a. meeting of the young ladies of the Parish took place, the object being to form a Social Club. It is .slated there was a very good attendance, and much useful matter was discussed relative to the formation of such a Club. An election of officers look place and resulted in a good committee being set up for the ensuing term. The club moots weekly on iM'iday evenings and a pleasant time is assured as tlie season progresses.
