A COMPENSATION CLAIM. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 1. The hearing of a claim for £SOOO for land in Ghuznee Street, taken by the City Council for street widening purposes by the owners of the property, Patrick James Hannigan and John Campbell Francis, .reached finality in the Supreme Court to-day, when Mr Justice MacGregor announced that the Court was of opinion that claimants should receive £3500 and costs totalling £75. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE WELLINGTON, May 1. Douglas Milligan Slater, 31 v a clerk, who was extradited from Australia, was charged with the theft of £490 7s 7d from Dougall, Coombs and Co. ITc pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. A DENIAL. WELLINGTON, May 2. In a cablegram published on April 26, it was stated on the authority of the Paris correspondent of the “Financial Times ” that the discussion on reparations had been most strained. The Belgian Consul in New Zealand, Armand Nihotte, communicated the text of this message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs at Brussels, and received the following reply: “1 authorise you to publish an official and most emphatic denial.”
