THE HALF HOLIDAY.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Please a]|ow me space in the columns of your valuable issue to place m.v views against what. 1 thought was not plain statements in the sub-leader of your Saturday’s issue. Sir, it states that the law is served as regarding .weekly half-holiday. We - know, sir, how hard and galling- at times the law Minay be. We have it in taxation against our local racing clubs. That Saturday is the main business day T fail to see, for if we look around us, we find that the majority of business houses, are closed. Banks, government offices, legal offices, Borough and County chambers, auctioneers, cattle -dealers, farm produce and seed merchants, blacksmiths and ironfounders, leaving open ’only, the butchers, drapers, bootmakers and grocers. The fruit shops and refreshment rooms need not be mentioned as they are open at all times. But, sir, I beg to point out that the greater majority of the shop-keepers with the exception of the bootmakers desire Saturday.

Another very incorrect statement was “The public have very little say in the matter at all.” Sir, for one, I am sure that ,it is wrong as we all have a vote to say what day we want the shops open. Thanking you for your valued space. I am, etc., BROADMINDED.
