MINING TROUBLE
N.S.W. CABINET PROPOSALS
(Received this day at 10 a.m.l SYDNEY, April 20.
The State Treasurer. Mr Stevens, has forwarded to the Miners’ Federation modified proposals by the Government for an immediate resumption of work. The Royal Commission, which will be appointed to make an investigation of the industry, will complete the report within three months. The scheme includes a shilling wage reduction.
Prospects for re-opening, however, are brighter now than for many weeks past.
McDonald, President of the Northern Colliery Owners, addressed three thousand miners at Ivurikuri yesterday. He was given an attentive hearing. Me put the case for the colliery owners and told of the dwindling trade. At the conclusion of the address the minors cheered.
