Complaints to the effect that M. Deibler (public executioner) carries out his duties too rapidly, led Abbe Bergey to question the Minister ol Justice in the Chamber of Deputies as to the reason why only a couple ol minutes elapses between the time the condemned are awakened and the execution. Abbe Bergey alleges: Deibler does not allow time for a priest to say the ordinary mass before the execution. All he thinks and is concei tied about is to get the man’s head oil' as quickly as he can.” .Deibler argues that he is shortening the agony and the quicker the head is oil' the better.
The public are now wondering it, as a result of Bergey’s parliamentary intervention, a legal time limit will he fixed.
