PRESIDENT’S VETO

Senator .McNarv warned the Senate that President Hoover would veto the Farm Mill if it contained debenture clauses, and asked the Senate to eliminate this subsidy feature so objectionable to the President. Meanwhile Senator Carraway is leading a bloc to insist on the debenture plan, m defiance el Mr Hoover.

Govorument officials are greatly pleased over the cordial reception given by Europe to Mr Gibson’s proposal. They feel that the American suggestions will result in one concrete understanding. leading to a practical international agreement for the curtailing of lighting fleets; although a separate Naval Conference is not contemplated for the time being. Representative Britten was one who expressed dissatisfaction at Mr Gibson's speech. He declared : “It is a complete surrender of the basic princioles of the agrement proposed by the the American delegates to the last Genova Conference, and another naval victory for British diplomacy.”
