(Australian Press Association)

(Received this day at 8 a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 20

Because of New South Wales coal stoppage, Victorian consumers, .including gas consumers, have arranged to import big supplies from New Zealand and England. The steamer Kaikorai has already brought a large cargo from New Zealand and the Kaitoke is duo shortly with another 'lour thousand tons. South African mines are also making a bold hid to enter Australian trade. The price of Now Zealand and English coals is known to be several, shillings lower than the cost of cargoes shipped from Newcastle. importers state if the proposals made by Mr Bavin (Prime Minister of New South Wales) had been accepted, the necessity to patronise overseas firms would not have arisen.
