UNEMPLOYMENT
NEED FOR CO-OPERATION
By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, April 24
Speaking at Eden Chamber of Commerce, Hon Stallworthy said unemployment was a matter in which all should co-operate. 'There was relatively nine million pounds idle in the hanks, which made it clear that many citizens were not pulling their weight in an effort to get hack to the general prosperity. The go-slow or strike policy on the part of capital could be just as pernicious as other policies. Government did not want to interfere with legitimate private enterprise, hut there was a responsibility on private capital to get the Dominion out of ids present difficulties. Although recovery was slow. Government was doing its utmost to improve the position. Immigration had been stopped for the time being and over two millions had been liberated to give the country new confidence, and an active public worKs policy was being pursued. Jt was fair to assume that had there not been a radical change of policy of the new Government, the unemployed position would have been very much worse than it was to-day. 'There was returning a. spirit of optimism based on the progressive Liberal policy.
