MAYORAL ELECTION TO THE ELECTORS OK HOKITIKA: Ladies and Gentlemen:— H'AYJNG served the town since 1911 as .Mayor, during which time what I have done has, 1 believe, met with general approval. T now again submit myself as a candidate for the office, and trust that my record in the past, may merit a continuance of your support. In this hope. T appeal to the electors for their vote and interest in the coming contest. GEORGE A. PERKY. MAYORAL ELECTION TO THE ELECTORS. Ladies and Gentlemen: IN RESPONSE to numerous pressing requests. 1 have allowed myself to !>e nominated for the ofliee of Mayor at the forthcoming .Municipal Elections. I agree with the opinion expressed by Mr .Jeffries in his notice a few nights ago. for one hears it expressed in many quarters that the time is ripe for a change, at all events l feel that it is in the best interest of c=ic community that the (‘lectors should have the opportunity of making a choice, which privilege lias not been theirs for some twenty-three years. In submitting my candidate, 1 feel that 1 have .some qualifications for, as well ns claim to the office, having served as a Councillor for twenty consecutive vear.>, retiring two years ago on my leaving New Zealand for an extended period. During that twenty years l was Deputy Mayor for fourteen years, and I think it will be conceded "that J was n.-t inactive while acting in that capacity; Chairman of the Finance Committee for sixteen years, while I represented the Council on the Fire Board for seventeen years and .1 was also a representative on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, both before and after it became an elective body. I propose to address the electors in the Town Hall next Monday evening when I will express my views on municipal matters.
There are two matters that 1 would like to he clear about now, as there seems to be some uncertainty. First, the office of Mayor is and lias been for many years an honorary one, and if J am elected it will certainly continue to he.
The other matter is the franchise. Tnis is the same as in the General Election. Every person who has resided three months in the Borough and is twentv-oue years of age. is entitled to vote, and I would like to urge every person entitled to vote to do so on polling day. Yours obediently. H. M. COIUSON.
