TRANSPORT BOARD
ITS FIRST TASK
CLEAR AND UNIFORM LAWS
WELLINGTON. April 20
The National Transport Advisory Hoard will hold its first meetin;; at. an early date, as the Eon AY. A. Veitcli, .Minister of Transport, informs a representative of the “Lyttelton 'limes that it only remains for two gentlemen who have been nominated .as members Lo formally signify to him that they are prepared to act. • “Immediately their replies are received,” added Mr Veitch—“and I have no reason to believe they will refuse acceptance of the positions —tinboard will be called together, for it will then he complete. “The Hoard.’’ continued the Minister, “will be asked to settle down t .serious business right away. '1 here is a lot of work ready for it. and 1 regaru as the -first task the revision of the Motor Regulations, and the simpli.icaiion of them wherever possible. What l hope ultimately to achieve is such a sot of regulations that, once the motorist has taken the trouble to understand them, he will he able to go right through New Zealand without breaking the law. because it will ho uniform, and he will easily understand what he has to do to comply with the regulations for his own safely, as well as that of other traffic, including the pedestrian. f am not so foolish as to believe that this ideal will be realised immediately, but it wo keep our attention constantly on it wo can at least hope for continual improvement of all matters connected with motor transport.'’
