AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON, April 21

Stun Wright, a prominent' member uf the Port Nicholson Cycling Club, .succeeded in breaking the existing cycle record from Auckland to Wellington by over !) hours -'l7 minutes. Wright left. Auckland on Thursday at 8 a.ni.. accompanied by a ear driven by Mr A. •). Coachman. in which were his trainer, .Mr 1). McFodorics, and Mr H. I). London, a representative of the Wellington Centre of the X.Z.A.A.A.. Awnkina was readied at 12.-10 a.in., where a rest was made for 7 hours 20 minutes On Friday at 8 a .an. Wright left on his journey to Wanganui, a distance of IoS miles, which point was readied at 9.20 p.m.. after battling with a strong head wind for the best part of the day. A spoil of seven and a (|uarter hours saw Wright left Wanganui at 1.40 a.m. to cover the last part of his record journey. A stiff southerly wind was encountered for the entire distance, making the travelling very severe, hut Wright proved himself to he made of the right mettle and he rode into Wellington at a good to m.p.li.. reaching the G.1’.0. at 4.0 p.m. on Saturday

Interviewed at the conclusion of his record attempt. Wright stated that he had a battle against tlu* wind for the entire distance, and found the conditions for the first two days very trying. Mad roads and hills, eomllined with the wind made the travelling slow over the last part el the distance. Wright mile strongly and climbed Pa.ekakariki bill in 27 minutes. 2 minutes over Ins ordinary training.
