(Australian Press Association)

KEITH ANDERSON’S FATE

NO SIGN OF HITCHCOCK

BRISBANE

April 22

Pilot Brain, of the aeroplane Atlanta, sent a message to-night: “Found the Kookaburra in the desert approximately 80 miles west by north of Powell's Creek. We circled low and one man was seen lying under the wing, apparently dead for some days. It looked like Anderson. There was no sign of the other man. We dropped a can of water attached to a small parachute. The machine appears undamaged and stands at the east end of a large patch of ground, which was largely burnt ofF and was still smoking.’’ Pack horses with a party of trackers are setting out from Wave Hill without delay. Brain suggests that other machines should join him in the search for the other man. Hitchcock.

THE DEAD MAN. (Received this dav at 10 a.m.)

SYDNEY

April 22

The man who is thought to he Anderson under the wing of the plane, has evidently been dead several days, as he was black in the face. Brain was unable to land owing to the rough nature of the country. A fire, presumably started by the airman. caused hush fires, clearing ten miles of scrub. There are indications that the, Kookaburra landed owing to engine trouble. The cowl of the engine was removed and attempts made to clear a rumvav for a take ofF.

The place where Anderson was found is two hundred miles north of the route he was supposed to take. A compass error should account for this.

Brain searched for an hour for Hitchcock.

The Air Board has instructed five Air Force machines to proceed in search of Hitchcock. It will take several days t.o organise a proper ground expedition. The. Canberra with Doctor Hamilton aboard will lly to the nearest landing ground and the doctor will he motored, if possible, to the Kookaburra.
