OBITUARY.

A. G. NIGHTINGALE. <lly Telegraph—Per Press Association.) NELSON, April 22. Obituary—A. G. Nightingale, a prominent citizen and ex-Oity Councillor, formerly of Greyinouth and Hokitika. The news of the death of Mr A. G. Hert) Nightingale came as a great shock to his many friends here. A telephone message received stated Mr Nightingale had been to Wellington and returned home on Saturday. This morning he had a heart seizure, and a doctor was summoned but lie passed away a short time afterwards. Deceased was a native of Hokitika and 59 years of age. He learned his business of a draper with the late Mr W. L. Fowler with whom he continued for fifteen years. On the death of Mr Fowler he joined the linn of W. McKay and Son at Greymouth and in 1900 was appointed manager of that branch. Later he went to Nelson as., manager of the firm’s business there Y and later took over the large drapery \ business there which he lias successifully carried on. In his younger days in the nineties he was a prominent forward in the Hokitika Rugby team then in the heignt of its glory and took part in the Christchurch tour in 189-1. Deceased leaves a widow (nee Annie Morrish), and a family of four sons (James, Albert, and Allan, in Nelson, and Harry in Melbourne) and two daughters (Doris and Marjorie in Nelson) two brothers (Fred in Melbourne and Henry in Grevtown,) and one sister (Mrs- A. K. Clarke of Mninicocille ) The hue M- C J. \ Nightingale of Hokitika was also a brother. Very deep sympathy will be extended to the bereaved widow, family and relatives in their sad loss.
