lIKUOIC OFFICERS. NEW YORK, Msireh 10. Two British engineers courageously sacrificed tlicir lives in an attempt to put out a fire which occurred in their steamer Tritonia (5,24.4 tons), of the Donaldson Line, as it was anchored yesterday outside Buenaventura Harbour, Colombia. The ship carried in its cargo 200 boxes of dynamite and a quantity of powder, all of which exploded as the two engineers, Johnston and Hall, vainl.s sought to stem the fire before it could reach dangerous material. The explosion was ielt ior miles around, causing serious damage to the Customs House and oilier buildings on the water front. Fragments of the Tri tonia struck and injured people on the shore. It is also said that an officer in another ship dropped dead as the explosion shook the harbour. Mr Alexander Johnston, the chief engineer, lived at fi, Glebe-avenue, Kil marnock. Air AV. Hall, the second en gineer was a native of Glasgow. The loss to the marine insurance market will he heavy, the ship being insured on a value of 1*52.250, while life cargo is undoubtedly, valuable. lhe marine insurance market is not intei oslcd in liability for damage done by the explosion to buildings and othei property. _____
