DOBSON MINE.
DEFECTIVE FIRING OF SHOT When a shot was about to be fired at the Dobson mine about (i o’clock last evening, there was a flash near the battery and the shot failed to take effect. Owing to the possibility of gas lurking in the vicinity, it was deemed advisable by the management to withdraw all the men from work, pending a thorough inspection of the mine.
A miner was close to the battery at the time, but 'no was not injured; and no damage was done to the mine as the result of the incident.
It was stated by the Manager of the Grey Valley Collieries (Mr J. Hughes) last evening that so far it was not known exactly what was the cause, but it was presumed that it was either due to the emission of gas or coal dust. The men had been withdrawn from the mine as a precautionary measuie, and a thorough inspection oi the mine would be made before operations wens resumed. There will also be an inquiij concerning the incident.
