New details of the British battleships “Nelson” and “Rodney,” which have been officially comnnmi■ated. show that amongst the features >f these wonder-ships, their steel decks are the heaviest horizontal protection >vor fitted to any ship, making them lie first bombproof- vessels- afloat. Secondly, the armour plating of :heir hulls and gun turrets—of such a thickness as to lie impeuetratable mder ordinary battle conditions. Thirdly, their .torpedo protection is m a scale never previously attempted. The “Daily Telegraph’s” naval correspondent says: “For the first time, at, least, naval defence appears to have mastered attack both iroin die aeroplane and the submarine.
