The Chairman stated that an ap db-ation had been received from the Manager of the Okarit'i Three Mile D. to purchase the manual engine at the North Be veil St. station for the sum of £lo. The Chairman stated that Supt. Mclntosh had waited on him with Air Stewart and had stated his approval of the offer. A discussion took place in regard to the necessity of the engine, it being stated that it was only of use as a standby, in the case of the breakdown of the water supply, and that it had not been used at a fire since the water supply had keen installed. Tt was considered, however, that the price, offered was inadequate, and the offer was refused, the Secretary to make enquiries to he available for next meeting as to the value ot the engine for (ire purposes, and the possibility of securing a buyer, ii if were decided to dispose of tlie engine. 'I lie meeting then terminated. Reminiscencing at the meeting of the Fire Board vesterday afternoon the Chairman (Finn IT. L. Over sixty years ago it had been purchased and brought to Hokitika by the then Town Board, and the occasion of its christening here was made the occasion of a notable gathering. A notable well-known actress of those days, who was paying a professional visit to Hokitika, at the time. Miss Julia Matthews, christened the engine “The Pride of Hokitika,” and at the same time presented the Hokitika Eire Brigade with a very handsome silk banner.
