I would give you a word of advice.’’ said .Mr Done; "it is: Be loyal. You have been loyal as far. as I am concerned. I wish you to continue to lie loyal, and more loyal il possible, to the Minister. If you hear the Minister being falsely accused of anything, don’t sit still and let it. go on. You don’t need to be partisans in politics at all. but if you hear statements made about the Minister which you know, to put it: plainly, are lies, be a man. stand up and contradict them. Stand by your Commissioner in the same way. He does the straight and fair thing as he sees it. Most of you know that. Well, don’t allow him to lie libelled. If you do sit still and listen to him being falsely accused you are passively agreeing. Be loyal to the head o! your Department, too. His is a tremendous responsibility. He may not always do tin* right thing—hut he does his liest. When my successor is appointed give him as lair a run as M 1 gave mo. One could not ask for more. Be loyal to the divisions of tin' Department. Don’t run them down: and don’t let other people run them down.
