The abandonment of the marriage of Grand Duke Boris with Princess Giovanna. of Italy, has caused disappointment in Sofia. Tli<» Pope was willing to sanction the union, if Princess Giovanna remained a Catholic, and Mussolini suggested that the heir to the Bulgarian throne he baptised in the Orthodox Greek Church, provided other children were brought up Catholics. Boris, however, refused to hind other children in this manner, so the Vatican declined to sanction the marriage.
