NT NET’Y YESTERDAY. WELLINGTON, April 8. Reference to the great work done by his Grace-Archbishop Redwood was made at the reception to the Very Rey Father Rieu, .Superior-General of tile Society of St. Alary, at St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, on Friday night, the Archbishop: himself . being present. “We have with us, happily.” said tile rector (the Very Rev. Father Ryan, S.AL, ALA.) one of the first pupils of the first school of Father Garin, of Nelson; one who answered the cal! to he the first priest from the new land ; one who sailed away on a great quest while still a boy, and came back to the land years after when a- priest, a teacher, anil a bishop of bis adopted land; one who never forgot the value of that first secondary school in old Nelson, and when occasion offered in tne ’eighties founded this college of >St. 'Patrick’s; one wlm will reach his 91st. year on .Monday next, and whoselife is. as it were, n summary of all our history—religious and civil—his Grace tne Archbishop.” The Prime .Minister (the Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) also spoke of his Grace. “If is almost impossible for us young fellows,” he said amidst laughter, “to recognise that his Grace is to he ninety on ATonday. I hope we shall all he here to congratulate him when lie has attained tiie very distinguished age of one hundred. (Applause). His is a wonderful record, and may 1. on behalf of all. wish him many very happy returns of the day.” (Renewed applause).
