bribery CHARGE. RIGA, LATVIA, Feb. 16. The Latvian Government has instructed its Minister in .Moscow to go to Pctrograd to attend the trial ol the Latvian citizen, Mr John Wolfman, for 26 yeans director oi the British fit in the Morgan Crucible Company. The ip factory was the only British undertaking in Pctrograd which the Communists failed to nationalise. Mr Wolfman. who even succeeded in operating the factory profitably, is charged with bribing two Soviet officials. Morgan crucibles are manufactured with the aid of Ceylonese graphite. I he Soviet Government demanded that Mr Wolfman should use Russian graphite, but this product proved unsatisfactory. Unable to sell their own crucibles a Soviet factory at laiga complained. The result was that the Cheka arrested engineers, who after the usual torture. said they had accepted bribes from Ah - Wolfman to buy .Morgan crucibles. Air Wolfman was arrested a year ago. but the workers at the Morgan factory called a strike, demanding that the Soviet Government should liberate their director. The strike was .successful and the workers signed Mr Wolfman’s I ond.
