Not for several years has the Greymouth Jockey Club experienced sTieli a successful day as their autumn meeting held on Saturday. Weather conditions were ideal, wild one of the largest crowds seen on the course was present. The track was fast, and the racing was of a high standard, some good finishes being witnessed. The fields were large, with the exception of one event, the High Weight Handicap. The totalise tor handled £9.(535A. compared with 0(5,984 for the corresponding day last year, and £8,854 for the 1987 meeting, while the gate receipts showed an approximate increase of £BO.

Favoured with brilliant weather, the opening day of the Avondale Bokov Clubs autumn meeting to-day attracted a large attendance. The track was in good order, some fast times_ being recorded. The Australian Jockey Club was 'favoured with ideal gate weather, and attendance for the concluding day of its autumn carnival. The track was heavv, due to recent rains.

There were large fields, but unpopular fancies were the order of i lie day.

The champion Victorian colt, Strcphon, went through the meeting undefeated. enjoying an easy victory against a field of moderate porformeis in the A.J.C. Plate. Results:—

Rous Handicap.—llacksa (7.13) 1. Fuji San (11.3) 2, Gilt Edge (10.2) 3. Twenty-six' started. Tn a close finish, llacksa won by hall a neck. lime 1.28. Hangar Handicap.—Honan (7.7) 1, Coloured ((5.9) and Loquacious (8.4) a dead heat for second. Eighteen starred. AVon comfortably by half a length. Time 2.34 V.

Second Steeplechase—Samphire (9.0) 1, Audit (10.2) 2. Prince A rim (10.6) 3. AVon by a length and a-hall. limo 6.23 J. Fern hill Handicap.—Firbolg (8.0) 1, Aly Talisman (7.8) 2, Peacemaker (8.4) 3.
