DISEASE AMONG DOGS
OUTBREAK OF DISTEMPER,
EFFECT ON WHIPPET RACES.
PALMERSTON N., April 4
Mr K. Cousins presided at the executive meeting of the Manawatu Whippet Racing Club last night. Discussion took place on the ad visibity of the club carrying out its share of the programme at the forthcoming Pohaiigina Valley sports meeting at Ashhurst, in view of the present prevalence of distemper among dogs. . The secretary stated that 2o acceptances had been received. After several members had expressed the view that the club would cancel the fixtures. Mr Cousins pointed out that the Pohaiigina Club had already advertised that the whippet events would he run and had offered the club a certain sum to stage the events. Did the club not owe tli<' sports body a duty? He recognised that there was a danger of infection. but thought that if proper precautions were taken the races could be carried out.
Other members expressed the opinion that if owners wore willing to take the risk. Liu* club should endeavour to carry out its share of the programme, and on the motion of Mr Phillips it was decided that the;, club carry out its programme according to schedule. .Arrangements for transport/of dogs and material were made and other dt tails in connection with the meeting finalised.
