FRESH CONFERENCE

OF ALL PARTIES

SYDNEY, April 3

The Federal Premier. Mr S. Bruce, and the New South Wales State Premier, Mr Bavin, have induced the coal owners and the coal miners to participate in a conference to he held within a. few days in order to discuss the possibilities of re-o-peniug tlie coal mines.

The Australian Labour Party elected Mr .T. J. Graves as President.

It was also decided B that Union officials and Labour Parliamentarians tic levied one-half per cent on salaries for party funds.

At the Shipping Conference, Mr Bruce said important points to conshier were the extent whereto it was possible to reduce the time spent- "by big ships at the.wharf, by more effective cargo handling methods and the evolution of a scheme of deeasualjsation of labour on the wharf.

English representatives submitted statements showing the heavy losses suffered and then adjourned. English shipping representatives informed the conference that losses oh the Australian section of their operations for the past three years was nearly three millions sterling, due to increased cost of various services and strikes.
