CASH ON DELIVERY SYSTEM

WELLINGTON, April 5. * Referring to n Dunedin statement that Mr McNamara, Secretary of the Rost and Telegraph Department, was instructed at tin* forthcoming International Rostal Conference to withdraw New Zealand from agreements regarding postal cash on delivery system, the Rostmaster-General, Mr J. Donald, said he did not think the information was correct. It might eventuate, he said, hut it had not been decided upon yet.
VESSEL REFLOATED
NEW PLYMOUTH, April o
The Aratapu sailed off Waitara beach at high tide this morning. When the channel was readied the engines were used to take the vessel to the Waitara wharf. The owner states tin* vessel was making no mors! water than usual for a wooden vessel and that a few pounds would cover the damage to the hull sheathing. The cargo of 130 tons of coal was unloaded.
Since the stranding on Saturday strong southerlies made the tides poor until to-day.
FURTHER RESOLUTIONS

The Legal Conference passed a resolution viewing with grave concern the dangers arising from provisions regarding the customary hire purchase agreements in the Chattels Transfer Act, and urged means he devised to protect purchasers of chattels to which such provisions apply. Other remits were passed, that the Government be requested to take into earnest consideration the question of increasing judges salaries, and the removal of anomalies at present existing in romieetion with their pensions.
DRAUGHTS TOURNEY
CALDERWOOD WINS FINAL

At the draughts congress the final of the championship was won by D. Caldcrwood. who heat G. A. Brown, the title holder. Those two continued their tie after a win each in the first two games. The ballot gave Calilerwood the hlai'k side of the 2*2-17 Dundee. Brown developed somewhat weakly, and Calderwood took every advantage, and forced his opponent into an untenable position in the fourth game. Calderwood. requiring only a draw, forced a series of exchanges and secured his object. E. Hibbard took third place.
INFLUENZA
AUCKLAND, April o
The Maui Pomare with 22 influenza stricken crew (out of a complement of 101 came out of clock to-day and anchored in the stream pending a conference between the External Affairs Department and the Hospital Board regaiding the disposition of the cases.
