The County road grader and tractor are being sent south on Monday, together with lorry equipment to attend to the various district roads. Operations are to he begin in the InterAVanganui district, where the roads will lie graded, and the lorry will he utilised for driving the piles for the temporary bridge across La Fontaine stream at the Settlement. When the roads about Hariliari are overhauled, the plant will be moved on to Wav.rna district, and the lorry will lie utilised for metalling Okarito road, which is now being subjected to considerable extra traffic.

At the Hokitika racecourse yesterday. a number of lawn seats kindly provided by well wishers of the Racing Club, were in use. and evidently ■> nprecia ted greatly by patrons. The donors of the seats were: Mrs New - man, Mr W. Newman, Mr H. Newman. Mr H. Lynch and Mr J. J. McIntosh. The Club since the misfortune of the fire last August, has had ready assistance from well wishers in many ways, and the management greatly appreciate what has been clone for it by all sections of the community.
