A good opportunity of seeing and identifying the planet Neptune will occur on April 12th, when it will be in conjunction with Alpha Leonis (RcguIns); it will he seen lo the north of the star at an angular distance from it. of 9 minutes of arc or rather less than one-third of the 'moon’s diameter. I'egulus will he on the meridian to the uortii of Christchurch on April 12th at 8.13 p.m., at an altitude above the horizon of 3 Ideg. Din in. The distance of Neptune from the earth will he about 27-10 million miles; as its apparent, magnitude will be about 7.7 a small - telescope or go *d field-glasses must be used in order to see it.
