NAVAL AIR PAGEANT

PROPOSAL UNDER CON-

SI DERATION

LONDON, Feb. 7

As so many civil, naval, and miliary experts are coining from all over the world for the. Schneider Cup contest in the Solent, the Air Ministry is considering a proposal that a big display of naval aircraft should be staged fn conjunction with tlie race. Tho idea is to show the world what Great Britain has done in the development of the flying navy. So far the public have little idea of the part aircraft now play in naval affairs. As the Hendon pageant is confined solely to land aeroplanes it is thought that a naval air pageant, which has never yet been attempted in this country, would be of great interest to the thousands of spectators who are going down to Southampton for the international contest. Fly-ing-boats and seaplanes will take part in the manoeuvres, and it is intended to have torpedo-dropping from the air. and the “bombing” of battleships, together with a demonstration of how the decks of ’plane-carrier ships are used as mi aerodrome. The Hendon pageant is attended b.v something like 100.000 people every year, so that the naval air pageant will certainly prove a great attraction.
