DUNEDIN, April 2.

A level crossing smash occurred in Dunedin this afternoon, when a baker’s motor delivery van, owned by John Abbott, was totally destroyed through colliding with a shunting train at the Hanover Street level crossing. By a miracle of good fortune, neither the driver, A\ illiam A. Spence, a married man of about 40 years of age, nor a bov who was accompanying him, was hurt at all seriously, though both are suffering from shock. Spence received a slight cut over the knee, which necessitated treatment at th e hospital, but he was able to go home. 9 lie boy was unhurt with the exception if minor bruises.
