“THE GAY DEFENDER” —TO-NIGHT.

The combination of Richard Dix and Gregory La Cava is one of the most successful teams that screendom has ever known. They first got together when La Cava was called in to supervise some thrill scenes in “ The Lucky Devil,” an auto racing story. Then, La Cava was given his own megaphone and told to direct Richard in a cowboy burlesque. “ Womanhandled ” was the result. Following that came “Let’s Get Married,” “ Say It Again,” and “ Paradise for Two,” each more popu-> lar than tile one that preceded it.' At that time, for some, unknown reason, the firm of Dix and La Cava was temporarily suspended. While Dix was making “The Quarterback,” “Knockout Reilly,” “ Man Power,” and “Shanghai Bound,” his pal was putting W. C. Fields through the paces of “ So’s Your Old Man,” and “Running Wild,” and Conklin and Bancroft through “ Tell It to Sweeney.” Finally, the powers that be thought the proper time had elapsed, so they brought these two pals together again. A story with almost limitless possibilities was put in their hands and—“ signals were on.” The result will be shown at the Princess Theatre to-night under the appealing title of “The Gay Defender.” In it, Dix appears as Joaquin Murrieta, a young Mexican don, who, when lawless Americans invade his gold-laden land, endeavors to keep his hacienda, protest his retainers, and win the love of a gorgeous girl. How he does all this represents what is thought to be the finest pro-, duct that Dix, La Cava and Co., have yet brought forth. Thelma Todd, talented graduate of the Paramount Picture School, is given her biggest opportunity to date as Joaquin’s Yankee sweetheart. Fred Kohler, harder than ever, comes along with another great character]',nation.

Or Thursday (race night) a big spe-

i cial “Love Me and the World is Mine” will be presented, together with an ' engagement of two popular vaudeville artists. George Storey and his dainty partner, Duleie Milner, in a special vaudeville act. Special prices 'will be charged.
